Equip students with a foundational understanding of Artificial Intelligence
Understanding AI role in educational contexts
and the critical awareness needed to use it responsibly and ethically.
By the end of this topic, students are expected to be able to:
1.Define Artificial Intelligence and distinguish between its key types: Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Generative AI
Describe how AI is currently applied in everyday educational tools and platforms (e.g., Ruang Guru, social media algorithms)
Evaluate the reliability and limitations of AI-generated information, recognizing that not all AI outputs are accurate
Reflect on the ethical implications of AI use in learning environments
Look at the picture:
Have you ever use it? What do you use for?
Is it helpfull? Why?
Please take a look at the timeline. Before AI popular today, AI itself has already develop before long ago.
Do you think Gen AI is transforming the way we learn in the classroom? Why and Why not?
What is your opinion if Gen AI is incorporated into the school curriculum in Indonesia?
If it is true that AI needs to be integrated into schools, which is more prominent at the moment—the opportunities or the challenges?
AI has been implemented in several daily use app
What do you usually use? What your opinion about this app?
What do you think after using AI for so long?
Based on the logo on the left, which one do you use the most and find reliable?
Are you sure the result of AI is valid? Why?
Look at the video, It is from @dionharyadi IG account. He is a Doctor, Certified Nutrition & Health Coach.
What can you conclude from those Reels?
How can we determine the validity of that content?
You are a future teacher, what should you do if you come across content like that?
In Indonesia, 42 percent of the public are unsure whether they can distinguish between AI-generated and authentic content on social media. This finding is based on a recent study by Luminate and Ipsos.
Strengthen AI and Digital Literacy
Develop people’s understanding of how AI works and how AI-generated content can be identified.
Verify Before Sharing
Check the source, publication date, context, and compare the information with reliable sources before sharing it.
Develop Critical Thinking
Ask: Who created this content? What is its purpose? Is there evidence to support the claim?
Increase Transparency
Platforms and content creators can provide clear labels or disclosures when content is generated or significantly modified by AI.
Use AI Responsibly
Remember that AI is a tool, not a source of truth. Users should evaluate and verify AI-generated information before trusting, using, or sharing it.
In Indonesia, awareness of ChatGPT among academics stands at 91.25%, with a usage rate of 57.5% among students and 84.2% among faculty members.
Can the use of AI help maintain academic integrity? Explain your reasoning.
Who should be held accountable for the use of AI within universities? the students, the professors, or the institutions?
Let’s see the opinion from AI expert and educators.
Jeff Crume – AI Engineer from IBM
Jaime Saavedra – Human Development Director and former Minister of Education in Peru
After you watch it, let’s discuss:
Evaluate and compare their perspectives on AI in education! What are the similarities and differences in their view points?
In your opinion, what kind of AI-Based Learning model would be realistic to implement in schools in Indonesia?
Task and reflection!
Make an essay: Do with 2 person in 1 Group to Conduct a simple mini-research project by interviewing five peers about how they use AI in their college assignments. The interview results are analyzed and presented in a brief report that includes: findings, ethical considerations, and recommendations.
Short reflection: Write short reflection about 300 - 400 words
Conclusion
AI can be a powerful tool for personalizing learning, helping teachers prepare materials, and improving learning efficiency. At the same time, however, overreliance on AI risks undermining students’ critical thinking skills, the originality of their work, and their academic integrity. Data shows that 47.4% of academics in Indonesia use Generative AI frequently, yet ethical guidelines for its use remain very limited.
